Case study · Built and run by PC1
GeoTrace: know where it is, and what’s in it.
Ordinary trackers tell you where the van is. GeoTrace also tells you whether the tools, machines and stock are still on it. PC1 designed the product, built the platform and runs it end to end.

The problem
Trackers show the van. Nobody could see the kit.
Firms that run vans and plant lose money in ways a normal tracker cannot see: tools and equipment that go missing between jobs, and machines that sit idle or miss their service dates.
Bolting together separate systems for vehicles, tools and sensors means more logins, more hardware and more invoices. And drivers are rightly wary of being tracked outside working hours.
What we built
One platform for vehicles, equipment and sensors.
Live fleet map
Real-time positions, trip history and playback, with speeding colour-coded on the route and polygon geofences.
BLE kit tracking
Tags report each item as on board, just arrived or missing, with “wrong van” and low-battery alerts.
Vehicles as detectors
Every van scans for tags as it moves; optional plug-in gateways cover depots and yards.
Machine trackers
IP69K-sealed units with backup battery, motion sensing and hours logging for service and thorough-examination reminders.
Safety & theft alerts
Panic button, crash, jamming and towed-with-engine-off alerts, plus idling, battery and tamper monitoring.
Privacy built in
Business and private mileage, with a genuine off switch for drivers outside working hours.
Cold-chain sensors
Temperature and humidity, with min, max and average over 24 hours to 90 days.
Secure by default
Team-scoped roles, mandatory two-factor authentication and new-device confirmation.

How we built it
Designed, engineered and hosted by the PC1 team.
We built GeoTrace the way we build for clients: a fast marketing site on Next.js behind Cloudflare, and a customer portal on Node.js with MapLibre GL and Leaflet maps that installs on a phone like a native app.
Because PC1 also runs infrastructure and security, the platform was designed around two-factor authentication, role-based access and monitored hosting from the first line of code.

Why this matters to you
The team that built GeoTrace is the team that runs your systems.
Most IT companies resell other people’s software. We designed, built and now run a live product that combines hardware, a cloud platform and a mobile app, and we support its customers day to day.
That is the same mix of skills your organisation relies on: networks, security, cloud hosting and software. When you need something built, or need your existing systems to work together, it is all in one team.
