Bespoke software development for businesses that have outgrown spreadsheets.

We replace the spreadsheets, Access databases and paper systems your business runs on with a web app built around how you actually work, then host it, secure it and support it.

  • BuiltGeoTrace, our own fleet and equipment tracking platform
  • Hostedon PC1 infrastructure, patched by our IT team
  • £6,000typical starting price for a first version

When it makes sense

Off-the-shelf fits the accounts. It rarely fits the rest.

Most businesses should keep a standard accounting package such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage for invoices, VAT and the ledger. The part that is unique to you, such as bookings, jobs, quotes, stock or field work, is where a bespoke system pays for itself.

  • You re-key the same data into several systems.
  • A key process lives in one person's spreadsheet or an old Access database.
  • Off-the-shelf software makes you change how you work, or charges for modules you never use.
  • Customers, staff or devices need to use the same system from anywhere.

Example

From an Access database to a web booking system.

For a holiday cottage business in South Wales, we replaced an old Microsoft Access database with a web booking system staff can use from any device.

GeoTrace shows the other end of the scale: a full platform we designed, built and run, combining GPS fleet tracking with Bluetooth equipment tags.

How we build

A small first version, then improve it with you.

  • We map the process with the people who do the work, not only managers.
  • A first version goes live early, so you test real use rather than a specification.
  • Hosting on Cloudflare, dedicated servers or Microsoft Azure, matched to your needs and budget, and patched, backed up and monitored by our IT and security team.
  • Connections to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Microsoft 365 and other systems through their official APIs.

How it works

From spreadsheet to system in four steps.

  1. 01

    Discover

Workshops with your team to map the process, data and systems involved.

  2. 02

    Design

Screens and a fixed-price plan for the first version, agreed in writing.

  3. 03

    Build

Short build cycles, with a working version to try at each stage.

  4. 04

    Host & support

We host, back up, secure and update the system, and add features as you grow.

Bespoke software questions

What people ask before switching.

How much does bespoke software cost?
It depends on the size of the process. We price a first version up front so you know the cost before work starts. Most first versions start from £6,000.
Can it work with our accounting package?
Yes. We usually leave invoices, VAT and the ledger in Xero, QuickBooks or Sage and connect the bespoke system to it, so your accountant keeps working the way they do now.
Who owns the software?
You do. Once the final invoice is paid, you own the code we write for your system. We keep the rights to our own reusable components and licence them to you as part of the system, so you are never tied to us.
Who looks after it once it is live?
We do. The same team that runs our clients' IT and security hosts, patches, backs up and supports the system, and adds features when you need them.
Can it connect to the systems we already use?
Yes. Joining systems up is a large part of what we build. For ORO2U we connected a Magento store to Orderwise for stock and orders, so data is entered once.
Have you built software of your own?
Yes. GeoTrace, our fleet and equipment tracking platform, was designed, built and is run by PC1, from the web dashboard to the installable driver app.
