Data cabling and fibre installation for South Wales businesses.
Structured data cabling for desks, phones, cameras and Wi‑Fi access points, and fibre links between buildings. Designed, installed and then looked after by the same Swansea team that runs your network.
- 2008WDL Concrete’s cabling, fibre and network, looked after by PC1 since
- 30+Axis cameras on WDL’s cabled site network
- One teamcabling, network, Wi‑Fi, phones and CCTV
What we install
Cabling for everything that plugs into your network.
- Structured data cabling to desks, meeting rooms and comms cabinets.
- Network cabling for VoIP phones, CCTV cameras, access control and Wi‑Fi access points.
- Fibre links between buildings, yards and site offices.
- Comms cabinets, patch panels and switches, labelled and documented.
- Moves, additions and tidy-ups of existing cabling.
Because we also run managed IT support, CCTV and 8x8 phones, the cabling is planned around what will actually connect to it.
Which cable
Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6a?
The category sets how fast and how far a copper cable can carry data. For new installs most businesses choose Cat6 or Cat6a; we recommend a grade after the site survey.
| Cable | Speed | Maximum length | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cat5e | Up to 1 Gbps | 100 m | Older installs; fine for basic desk connections |
| Cat6 | Up to 1 Gbps (10 Gbps up to about 55 m) | 100 m | Most new office cabling |
| Cat6a | Up to 10 Gbps | 100 m | Busy networks, Wi‑Fi 6 access points, room to grow |
| Fibre | 10 Gbps and beyond | Hundreds of metres to kilometres | Links between buildings and long runs |
Wired or wireless
Why wired networks still matter.
Wi‑Fi is convenient, but a wired connection is faster, steadier and harder to interfere with. Most sites need both: cabling for fixed equipment and the access points themselves, and business Wi‑Fi for laptops, phones and visitors.
| Wired (data cabling) | Wireless (Wi‑Fi) | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed and reliability | Full speed, unaffected by walls or neighbours | Shared and varies with distance and interference |
| Security | Needs physical access to the network | Needs strong encryption and sign-in |
| Best for | Desks, servers, phones, CCTV, access points | Laptops, mobiles, guests and moving around |
| Downside | Cost and disruption to install | Slower and less predictable under load |
Example
Fibre and separate networks across a working site.
At WDL Concrete in Aberdare we run fibre between buildings, with separate networks (VLANs) for staff, guests and plant systems and Juniper firewalls on the leased line. The same cabling carries more than 30 Axis cameras.

What people ask before switching.
Do you install fibre between buildings?
Can you work out of hours?
