Would you pass Cyber Essentials today?

Work through the same ground as the official assessment, in plain English. See exactly where you would get stuck before you pay for anything, then send us your answers and we’ll use them to pre-fill your real questionnaire.

  • 30 minin one go or in stages: it saves as you go
  • 12sections, following the official question set
  • Freeno sign-up; nothing is sent unless you choose
  • 1 dayfor a reply from a senior engineer once you send it

Before you start

Worth knowing first.

Is this the official Cyber Essentials questionnaire?
No. It’s PC1’s plain-English version, structured like the current Danzell (v3.3) question set so your answers carry straight across. Certification itself is through an IASME-licensed certification body, using the official questions.
Where do my answers go?
Nowhere until you choose. They save automatically in your own browser, and you can download them to a file. They only reach PC1 if you press Send on the results page. If you ask us to email you a link to carry on later, we keep your answers on our server for 30 days after your last change so the link works, then delete them.
Do I have to do it all in one go?
No. It saves as you go, so you can close the page and come back on the same computer and browser. To carry on from another device, or hand part of it to a colleague or your IT provider, use “Email me a link to carry on later” or save your answers to a file.
What if I don’t know an answer?
Answer “Not sure” or tick “PC1 can help” and carry on. Those come through to us flagged, and we’ll go through them with you.
What does a blocker mean?
Something that would stop you certifying under the current rules, such as unsupported Windows or Office, a cloud service without MFA for every user, or updates left longer than 14 days.
How much does certification cost?
Guided certification with PC1 is from £1,500 plus the IASME assessment fee, which depends on the size of your organisation. Any fixes are quoted after we’ve seen your answers.

Your organisation

The basics that go on your certificate. None of this is scored.

A1.1

Exactly as it should appear on the certificate. One legal entity; you can add a trading name (‘trading as’).

A1.2
A1.3

Include volunteers, agency staff and contractors who can get at your data.

A1.4

Companies House numbers are 8 characters, e.g. 01234567 or SC012345. Sole traders and partnerships: put ‘none’.

Registered addressA1.5
A1.5.1

Offices, shops, yards, etc. Not staff home addresses. Leave blank if it's just the registered address.

Do you want more than one company or legal entity covered by this certificate?A1.6
Why this matters

Extra entities can only share a certificate if they use the same IT and network and one director can sign for all of them. They can't be added afterwards.

A1.7
A1.8

A Facebook or LinkedIn page is fine if you don't have a website.

Have you held Cyber Essentials before?A1.9
What are the two main reasons you need it?A1.10

Pick two.

A1.14
If you suffer a cyber attack, are you happy for the scheme to contact you to learn from it?A1.13

Optional research. Either answer is fine.

Can the scheme contact you for research?A1.15

Either answer is fine.

Have you signed up to the NCSC's free Early Warning service?A1.16

It's free and alerts you to problems seen on your internet connections. Worth doing either way.

A tender, contract or insurance renewal date, for example.
