Initially, WDL installed a CCTV system in 2008 to ensure security at their production site. At the time, they chose PC1 to install Axis cameras due to their reputation for being the most advanced on the market. Over the years, the number of cameras on-site grew to over 30, as the company expanded and its security needs increased. By 2024, a handful of the older cameras needed upgrading, showing testament to the longevity of the cameras.
WDL’s needs had also evolved beyond simple site security. They now required a more intelligent and integrated surveillance solution that could serve multiple users simultaneously, monitor specific manufacturing processes, and meet the technical demands of a modern, expanding company. Additionally, the site’s infrastructure had to handle complex networking requirements, including building-to-building fibre connections, VLAN management, and reliable WiFi coverage in areas with no mobile signal. Ensuring data security and system stability, especially with remote workers and off-site backups, was also crucial for WDL’s continued growth.
PC1 stepped in to deliver a comprehensive solution, upgrading WDL’s CCTV system and enhancing their IT infrastructure. The updated system features advanced Axis cameras, including specialist views to monitor specific production lines. These cameras now play a crucial role in monitoring the block lines, enabling real-time observation and intervention when issues arise during manufacturing. Additionally, the inclusion of Lightfinder 2 technology allows for high-quality monitoring in near-total darkness, particularly useful in WDL’s dark curing rooms.
The CCTV system is designed to integrate seamlessly with WDL’s on-site Active Directory, ensuring that different user groups have tailored access permissions based on their roles. This compliance-focused setup offers flexibility and security, allowing multiple users to access live monitoring and recording simultaneously without compromising system integrity.
PC1 also overhauled WDL’s networking infrastructure. This included installing building-to-building fibre connections and implementing VLAN configurations to manage users, guests, and plant systems efficiently. State-of-the-art Juniper firewalls were deployed to provide leased line connectivity, ensuring continuous service. One key challenge was addressing the lack of mobile signal at the site. PC1 solved this by creating a stable WiFi network that enabled WiFi calling, ensuring reliable communication across the site.
In addition to the CCTV and networking enhancements, PC1 manages the full IT stack for WDL. This includes patch management for servers, workstations, and laptops, as well as antivirus and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) for comprehensive security. A full disaster recovery system secures WDL’s data off-site for seven years, ensuring business continuity. PC1 also backs up critical laptops to the cloud for remote workers, adding an extra layer of security for off-site operations.
Beyond the infrastructure, PC1 supports WDL by building and maintaining their websites, as well as those of their subsidiaries. These websites are patched regularly and hosted in a secure data centre, ensuring they remain safe and operational at all times.
